There are five people in U.S. In all but one case, they were elected vice president and then became president following a president’s death. Tyler was a former Virginia governor and the running mate of William Henry Harrison. After winning the 1840 election, Harrison gave the longest inauguration speech in history despite extremely cold and nasty weather. Harrison caught pneumonia and died after only about a month in office, the shortest-tenured president ever. Tyler thus became the first person to ascend to the presidency due to the death of a president. Tyler helped set a precedent by insisting he was a full-fledged president and not merely an acting one. He was nicknamed "his accidency" and received many death threats. Tyler was unable to accomplish much because of extremely poor relations with Congress. He loved to veto bills that Congress sent him. Even his fellow Whigs in Congress banished him from the party after he vetoed a bill that would have eliminated the central bank. Tyler’s main accomplishment was beginning the annexation of Texas. |

The purpose was to put on Congress to pass a civil rights bill. When the president veto's a bill, he must return the bill to the members of congress. Congress can then vote again or change the bill. How does Congress pass a bill over the President's veto? A bill passed by Congress and vetoed by the President is returned to Congress. By a two-thirds vote in both houses, Congress may override the veto and the bill will become law. What is it called Congress sets aside money for a specific purpose? Who sponsors bills in congress? Any congress member may sponsor a bill, and bills may have multiple sponsors. It's basically just the person or people who introduced the bill. Who may introduce a bill in congress? |

The Tea Party movement has rallied around a sweeping call for change in Washington. But more often than not, dramatic changes fail to transform large organizations. Because different people see the world differently. As the 2010 mid-term elections approach, the Tea Party movement has created a big political buzz. Having scored several unexpected upsets in various state elections and primaries, the rally cry of throw the bums out has become the catchphrase of the day. Tired of what they perceive as a failure of either Democrats or Republicans to represent their interests, those who embrace the movement are looking for a change in the way the U.S. I wont take a stand for or against the movement itself (my friends tell me I am frustratingly apolitical). But even if all of the Tea Party candidates currently running win their respective races, my prediction is that we will not see much real change. My doubt is not born of any political savvy or insight; rather, it comes from being a business coach, consultant and lifelong student of change. |
