For example, the antigen binding portions can be derived from any of the antibodies or antibody variants known in the art. Single chain antibodies are formed by linking the heavy and light chain fragments of the Fv region via an amino acid bridge, resulting in a single chain antibody. The term "antigen-binding portion" refers to a polypeptide fragment of an immunoglobulin, antibody, or antibody variant which binds antigen or competes with intact antibody (i.e., with the intact antibody from which they were derived) for antigen binding (i.e., specific binding). |
